host with heart
A design-led framework for creating hospitality experiences you can trust — instead of constantly fixing.
Host With Heart: The Guest Experience Blueprint
Host With Heart is not about doing more, adding features, or fixing things endlessly.
It’s about designing your experience intentionally — so it can be trusted to hold together, support your guests, and reduce the need for constant adjustment as it grows.
This work introduces a guest-lens design framework that helps you step into your experience the way guests actually live it. From that perspective, you clarify the core feeling your space is meant to hold and shape spaces, flow, and moments from that clarity instead of reaction.
As the design becomes more coherent, decisions feel simpler. The experience begins to hold itself. And you’re able to trust both the work and the pace at which it unfolds — without forcing growth or constantly fixing what’s already working.
-
Phase 1: See Like a Guest
-
Module 1: Crafting Your Lens
This lesson introduces the core lens you’ll use throughout the course. You’ll begin shifting from designing based on habit, assumption, or effort into seeing your experience the way a guest actually lives it — emotionally, physically, and rhythmically. This perspective becomes the foundation for everything that follows.
-
Module 1 Activity: The Stay Audit
In this activity, you’ll apply the guest lens directly to your own experience. By slowing down and observing where the experience supports the intended feeling — and where it quietly breaks down — you begin creating clarity without judgment or urgency.
-
Module 1 Story: Frustrated Guests To Inspired Hosts
This lesson shares how years of travel — including both disappointing and exceptional stays — shaped our understanding of hospitality. Through contrast, we realized that memorable experiences aren’t about amenities or price, but about how a space makes people feel. That insight became the foundation of Klarhet and the guest-lens approach.

Phase 2: Design With Heart
-
Module 2: Design the Feeling
This lesson introduces the idea that every experience creates a feeling, whether it’s intentional or not. You’ll explore how naming a single core feeling gives your experience clarity and direction, helping design decisions feel steadier and more aligned as your space grows or evolves.
-
Module 2 Activity: Core Feelings Exercise
This activity guides you through clarifying the core feeling your experience is designed to support. By slowing down and naming what matters most, the feeling moves from something intuitive into something consciously held — giving your design decisions a clear anchor and reducing second-guessing over time.
-
Module 2 Story: The Power of Feeling
This lesson shares how an early design decision at Klarhet — asking guests to park centrally and walk to their dome — shaped the feeling of the entire stay. By designing the experience from the very first moment of arrival, we created a sense of transition, empowerment, and wonder that carried through the rest of the experience and made the feeling unmistakable.
-
Module 3: Designing From Coherence
This lesson focuses on turning your core feeling into the foundation of your design. Instead of starting with décor or trends, you begin designing from intention — shaping a clear visual and emotional direction that guides materials, light, texture, and choices. This is where your space starts to feel cohesive, purposeful, and unmistakably yours.
-
Module 3 Activity: turning feeling into form
In this activity, you’ll begin translating your core feeling into tangible design elements. By shaping a clear visual and emotional direction through color, texture, materials, and light, you create a simple design foundation that makes future decisions easier and more aligned — without relying on trends or over-decorating.
-
Module 3 Story: The moment that gave us klarhet
This lesson shares the moment Klarhet was born — standing inside an empty dome and feeling an immediate sense of calm and clarity. That experience revealed how profoundly space, light, structure, and connection to nature can shape the nervous system. It became the foundation for designing spaces that don’t just look beautiful, but help people soften, settle, and remember themselves.
-
Module 4: Crafting Your Story & Designing Magic Moments
This lesson explores how to turn your personal passions, values, and experiences into the story behind your stay — and translate that story into intentional moments guests can feel. You’ll learn how to identify a meaningful thread rooted in what you genuinely love and express it through a small number of signature moments that make your experience personal, memorable, and impossible to copy.
-
Module 4 Activity: Bringing Your Story to Life
In this activity, you’ll choose a personal passion or value that aligns with your core feeling and use it as the story thread of your stay. You’ll then translate that story into 2–3 intentional signature moments — sensory touch points that guests experience throughout their stay, making the experience feel personal, memorable, and impossible to duplicate.
-
Module 4 Story: How Intention Becomes Experience
This lesson shares how Klarhet grew from a desire to heal, slow down, and reconnect with land, animals, and imagination. Through intentional design, nature immersion, and everyday rhythms, the experience became something guests could feel — grounding, playful, and quietly transformative. It’s a reflection on how listening deeply allows meaning, beauty, and ease to emerge naturally.
-
-
Phase 3: Express with Ease
-
Module 5: Living the Experience
This lesson is about letting the work you’ve done settle into place. Rather than adding or refining, you’ll focus on orienting yourself inside the experience you’ve designed — allowing clarity to hold, decisions to feel complete, and the framework to become something you can return to and live from over time.
-
Module 5 Activity: Show the Soul of Your Stay
In this activity, you’ll bring everything together into a simple, usable reference you can return to over time. This experience map helps you hold the guest lens, core feeling, and signature moments in one place — so future decisions feel steadier, clearer, and less reactive as your experience evolves.
-
Module 5 Story: How Ease Became Our Marketing Strategy
This lesson shares how Klarhet grew without marketing plans or pressure — simply by designing an experience that felt clear, honest, and supportive to inhabit. As coherence deepened, guests shared naturally, opportunities arrived, and growth unfolded without chasing it. It’s a reflection on how alignment, not effort, is what allows experiences to speak for themselves.

Kirk and Nicole
We’re Kirk and Nicole, the partners behind Klarhet.
Our work grew out of a simple desire: to create experiences we genuinely wanted to inhabit ourselves. As travelers, we noticed how often hospitality missed the mark — beautiful on the surface, but disconnected in how it actually felt to be there. We knew there was another way.
Together, we designed and built Klarhet on the North Shore of Lake Superior — shaping every part of the experience through intention, restraint, and feeling. Over time, that approach led to deeply loyal guests, natural word-of-mouth, and a body of work we could trust and live inside.
Kirk has been integral to the physical realization of Klarhet — from construction and systems to land stewardship and daily operations. Nicole brings the design lens — translating feeling, rhythm, and story into experiences that people remember long after they leave.
What we’re sharing in this course isn’t theory or strategy. It’s the framework we lived, refined, and relied on — a way of designing hospitality that supports both guests and the people creating it.
Because when an experience is coherent and intentional, it doesn’t just serve others well — it creates freedom, steadiness, and sustainability over time.
What you’ll Experience
This course is designed to help your hospitality experience become easier to hold — mentally, emotionally, and operationally.
As you move through the work, many people notice:
clearer decisions without constant second-guessing
a stronger sense of trust in their space and offering
guests responding more emotionally and intuitively
fewer reactive changes and less overthinking
an experience that feels coherent instead of pieced together
Rather than adding more features or complexity, the work helps you simplify — so your design, systems, and moments support the same core feeling.
Over time, this clarity tends to create:
guests who remember why it felt special
natural sharing and word-of-mouth
return visits that don’t rely on discounts or upgrades
a steadier, more sustainable relationship to hosting
Nothing flashy changes.
What changes is how grounded, confident, and supported the experience feels — for both you and your guests.
“A great experience! Wife and I just enjoyed a 3-day weekend here and had an amazing time. A truly unique experience at a special place...and some pretty cool people. The baby goats and fresh eggs were a great touch. Can’t wait to see what they do next.”
“Intentional hospitality doesn’t just hold the power to inspire your guests’ lives — it can and will change yours for the better too if you allow yourself to go just a bit deeper to craft something exceptional.”
Course FAQ

This course is for anyone designing an experience for others to inhabit — whether you’re just beginning to imagine a space or already hosting and wanting things to feel clearer and easier. It’s for people who care about how their experience feels, who value intention over trends, and who want to create something memorable without constant fixing, upgrading, or overthinking.

No. This course works whether you already have a space or are still in the planning phase. If you’re designing something new, you’ll use the framework to shape your experience from the beginning. If you’re already hosting, you’ll apply the same lens to refine what exists. The work meets you where you are.
-
Yes. This framework applies to any experience designed for others to inhabit — including short-term rentals, boutique hotels, restaurants, retreats, tours, workshops, and place-based experiences. It’s not dependent on size, budget, or aesthetics. The work focuses on how an experience feels and how design, rhythm, and moments support that feeling across many contexts.
-
Most hosting courses focus on tactics — pricing, marketing, optimization, or growth strategies. Host With Heart focuses on the experience itself. It teaches a design lens that helps your space, flow, and guest journey become coherent and trustworthy. When the experience is clear and intentional, ease, loyalty, and growth tend to emerge naturally — without constant fixing or chasing trends.
-
Some shifts happen quickly — especially increased clarity, confidence, and ease in decision-making. Small refinements may be implemented right away, while deeper elements like story and rhythm naturally unfold over time. As the experience becomes more coherent, many people notice stronger guest responses and organic momentum — without forcing change.
-
A large budget isn’t required for this work. The framework emphasizes clarity, restraint, and intentional choices — not expensive upgrades. Many of the most meaningful shifts come from simplifying, reworking what you already have, and designing moments thoughtfully. The focus is on alignment, not accumulation.
